Who Is Responsible For Pest Control?

Landlord or Tenant?

Find out the facts and stop those little creepy crawlies in their tracks.

A pest infestation at a rental property can cause headaches for both tenants and landlords. There are a number of infestations and outbreaks that can happen at a property.

Types of pests you may encounter:

·         Rats & mice

·         Cockroaches

·         Ants

·         Fleas

·         Spiders

·         Snakes

·         Possums

·         Silverfish

It is the tenant’s responsibility for the majority of pest control for the property. This is especially true if a tenants’ lack of general cleaning or household maintenance is the cause of the infestation.

However in most cases the landlord will be responsible for clearing pests such as rats, possums or termites, unless it is a direct result of the tenants poor housekeeping and lack of cleanliness that has attracted these pests. We do however as a best practice procedure insist that a landlord carries out an annual cockroaches, ants and spider spray as it is their responsibility to keep the property free from vermin.

If you are generally concerned about your health and safety and unsure what to do, it is always best to contact your property manager.

At BlueChip Rentals we are always here to help steer you on the right path by protecting your investment. Call us for more advise.
